Penang Free & Easy Stopover (3D/2N)
Take a brief holiday at the Pearl of the Orient
MORE ABOUT THIS TOUR
This promotional package allows you to explore Penang, the Pearl of the Orient, at a leisurely and relaxed pace. It includes 2 nights accommodation with daily breakfast, airport transfers and a half-day tour of the island. Extension stays are available at special discounted rates.
The half-day Round Island Discovery Tour is a convenient way to see the island. Enjoy the different views of the island, from its sandy pocket beaches, to the bustling streets of the heritage city of Georgetown. Learn more about the tropical fruits that are planted on the island and savour some of them when you visit a local fruit plantation during this tour. For a modern touch, see how jewellery is crafted at the OE (Oeding & Erdel) factory. Finally, meet the wondrous snakes of the island's famous Snake Temple.
You will also have some free time that you can spend leisurely during the duration of your visit. Here are some suggestions on how to occupy your time in Penang.
Penang Island's most recent tourist attraction is also its oldest – the heritage city of Georgetown, which together with Malacca Town, was listed as a World Heritage City in 2008. The many heritage buildings are a key feature of this city, but it is the living heritage – the people, the traditional arts and crafts – that truly make it unique. Most visitors opt for a Georgetown Heritage walk, some sign up for optional half day tours that focus on the city, while others just wander around with a map. The old English quarter, the clan jetties and the clan houses of Penang are just some of the better known heritage attractions in Georgetown.
Other places of interest include Penang Hill, along with Kek Lok Si – arguably the largest Buddhist/Taoist temple complex in South East Asia, Gurney Drive – a seafront promenade that is renowned for Penang's famous hawker food, and the beaches of Batu Ferringhi – dotted with numerous beach resorts and hotels. Local delicacies are also very popular, especially for regional visitors, and shopping in Penang offers the potential shopper not only modern comforts but also traditional Chinese biscuits and the ever popular preserved fruits at Chowrasta.
