In conjunction with the Chinese New Year which falls on 23rd and 24th January 2012, the Penang state government, Penang Chinese Clan Council and the Penang Clan Associations Youth Committee will be organising a fun-filled cultural event on 29th January 2012. The Penang Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration will take place in the city’s UNESCO World Heritage site from 3.00 pm until midnight that day. Some of the streets that will be involved in this grand cultural showcase will include Armenian Street, Chulia Street, Acheen Street and Kampung Kolam.
Visitors to this cultural celebration can expect to see all sorts of exciting cultural activities as well as traditional games and cultural exhibitions. There will also be lion dance performances, a treasure hunt, human chess contest and various other activities. There will also be cooking demonstrations and food tasting of traditional Chinese food. This event is set to attract more than 100,000 visitors as it managed to attract that amount of visitors last year despite the rain.
