Mulu Airport serves a very specific and important function: it is the main link to the outside world for the area. Unlike other regions in the country, Mulu is not accesible by road, and the only other transportation option is by boat. Mulu is famous for the caves that are located in Mulu National Park, and the subterranean habitat within the cave network and attracts thousands of visitors each year. Besides the national park and its facilities, there is a hotel resort that caters to visitors. Apart from this, Mulu is largely an undeveloped region.

The airport offers two daily flights from MASwings to three destinations: Miri, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu via Miri. The airport does not offer flights to any other destination at present.

The airport building is a very simple structure with minimal facilities, including a cafe. There are no car rental counters, Automated Teller Machines, or currency exchanges at the airport.

Operating Hours

The airport's normal operating hours are between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In event of flight delays, the airport will remain open until the flight has taken off, or has been cancelled.

The airport is located 2.5 kilometres west of Mulu National Park. Normal taxi service is not available, but transport can be arranged through hiring rides from locals at the airport, with fares averaging between RM3 to RM5. As it is located in such a remote area, there is no public bus service available.
