Also, relax and luxuriate in the comforts of a tropical getaway and be pampered during your stay at Royal Mulu Resort.
Day 1: Arrival at Mulu
Your adventure begins as you check into Royal Mulu Resort after your arrival at Mulu Airport. Freshen up and prepare yourself for your excursion into the underworld, beginning with a three kilometre afternoon hike through breathtaking rainforest after registering at the park's headquarters. The hike will bring you to the first set of show caves, Lang's Cave, named after the man who introduced the world to the caves in 1978, and Deer Cave, with its spectacular cave entrance, the largest in the world.
One of the main highlights of the day happens at the entrance of Deer Cave just before dusk, when thousands of bats swarm out from within to begin their nightly search for food. Witness this fascinating spectacle before returning to the resort for the night.
Day 2: At Gunung Mulu National Park
A morning boat ride along the Melinau River takes you to the Cave of the Winds. Marvel at its beautiful stalagmite and stalactite formations within an area known as the King's Chamber, which, according to local legends, is haunted.
Another boat ride awaits in the afternoon after lunch at Clearwater Hut, taking you to Long Litut. Long Litut is the starting point of an 8.8 km trek through lowland rainforest to Camp 5, the base camp for the Pinnacles climb and other nature treks, such as the Headhunters' Trail. Rest and prepare yourself for the Pinnacles climb the following day.
Day 3: At the Pinnacles of Gunung Api
Ascend Gunung Api in the morning after breakfast. The climb is considered tough and will pose a challenge to those who are unprepared for the climb. The time taken for the ascent averages between four to five hours and a breathtaking view of the limestone pinnacles awaits those who complete 1200 metre ascent. Lunch at the Pinnacles, no matter how simple, is an unforgettable experience. The day comes to a close as you unwind after arriving at Camp 5 following your descent from Gunung Api in the afternoon.
Day 4: Departing Gunung Mulu National Park
After breakfast, take a morning trek back to Long Litut where a boat ride takes you to Clearwater Cave, a long network of underground passages named after the underground river that runs through it. The crystal clear water is inviting and refreshing, so take the opportunity to have a swim while you are there.
Your day of exploration comes to a close as you return by boat to Royal Mulu Resort in the afternoon. Try some of the activities offered at the resort or just laze your day away amidst the beautiful natural surroundings.
Day 5: Depart Royal Mulu Resort
Wake up and enjoy the calm and serene atmosphere by the banks of Melinau River. Pamper yourself with a slow paced morning till your transfer to Mulu Airport.
