Sweden Malaysia Nobel Gala Dinner: A Toast To A Visionary

April 27, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Alfred Nobel was perhaps the greatest visionary who ever lived. He made his fortune through one of the most important inventions in the 19th century, dynamite. He dedicated his entire life to the pursuit of science, translating theoretical principles into various applications through a bit of creativity and ingenuity. Many of his inventions changed the world, some for the better, and according to some of his contemporaries, for the worse, due to Nobel being an arms manufacturer.

The man who continues to inspire mankind

As great as his contributions were during his lifetime, this Swedish man’s greatest invention was made upon his passing. When Alfred Nobel died, he instituted the Nobel Prize, a series of prizes honouring men and women in the fields of physics, chemistry, peace, medicine, and literature. This last act of his has wrought significant changes in the world ever since, and till this day, the institute that bears his name continues to encourage and acknowledge innovation and research around the world.

Every year since 1900, with the exception of a brief period between 1940 and 1942, the entire world has come together to honour the exceptional few among us. And as we honour these remarkable people, we celebrate Alfred Nobel’s greatest gift to his fellow man, a gift of hope and inspiration to continually seek out better ways to live our lives.

And so, in the spirit of Alfred Nobel, the embassy of Sweden together with the Swedish Trade Council and Sweden Malaysia Business Association, have been kind enough to organise an exquisite Swedish Malaysia Nobel Gala Dinner this year. The Gala Dinner is modelled after the actual Nobel Prize Banquet that forms a part of the annual Nobel Prize Ceremony. In keeping with tradition, the menu will remain a secret until dinner is served, and will feature Chef Michal Elfwing’s selection drawn from actual Nobel Prize Banquet menus. One dish of note will be from 1957, the year Malaysia gained her independence.

The dinner will feature world-class entertainment and exclusive music performances by the up and coming Swedish band The Harvest and Malaysian duo Frank Scoot Hew and Syafinaz Selamat. The main speaker at the event will be Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia. In addition renowned Swedish speaker, Fredrik Haren will make a speech. The dinner will be held at Hilton Hotel on Friday, 6th May 2011.

Limited tickets are still available. For more information, email masbakl@gmail.com by latest 29th April 2011.
