Nestled in a corner of Kuala Lumpur's premier shopping complex, Suria KLCC, this understated yet elegant gallery offers visitors the chance to appreciate art in a serene atmosphere. In accordance with its efforts to promote and support the development of art in the country, Galeri Petronas organises and hosts a score of contemporary art exhibitions of various mediums by Malaysian and international artists each year.
Viewing art at Galeri Petronas, located on Level 3 Suria KLCC, is truly an enjoyable experience as the layout of the gallery itself, combined with thoughtful lighting design, come together to create a flowing movement of space. Visitors walk seemlessly through exhibitions as they contemplate each individual art display. The gallery features a programme of changing art, craft and design exhibitions, ensuring that every visit to the gallery is unique and that every aspect of such a rich aspect of human culture is represented and enjoyed by the masses.
This non-profit art gallery, which relocated from Dayabumi Complex to its present location in 1998, was established by Petronas, Malaysia's national oil company, in 1993 and has been able to promote Malaysian art through its numberous exhibitions that feature contemporary Malaysian artists. The gallery also prides itself on preserving some of the country's fine artistic heritage and serves as a custodian for the Petronas Art Collection. This extensive collection currently has over a thousand pieces of art, ranging from paintings and photographs to costumes and crafts, and also includes treasured gifts presented to Petronas by its international partners over the years. This special collection has been exhibited on occasion and there are current plans to display parts of the collection at the gallery.
There are many intracity buses that include Suria KLCC as a stop on their routes.
