Meet some of Borneo's unique inhabitants, like the Proboscis monkey and of course, the famous 'jungle man', the Orang Utan!
Day 1: Sepilok to Sukau
Your first destination after your arrival at Sandakan airport is the well known Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Initially set up to rehabilitate orphaned orang utans in 1964, this centre has developed into a major draw for tourists, providing a window into the life of the orang utan.
In the afternoon, you'll begin your two hour boat ride to Sukau Rainforest Lodge, located along Sabah's longest river, the Kinabatangan River. Lean back and marvel as you pass untouched mangroves, wetlands and rainforests. After checking in and refreshing yourself, hop into a river boat for a two hour cruise along the Kinabatangan River to see the Proboscis monkeys as they settle down for the night on treetops. Wrap up an amazing day with a slide show conducted by a naturalist guide after dinner.
Day 2: In Sukau
Enjoy the cool morning breeze as you cruise up Kinabatangan River to view the birds and animals that are part of this diverse ecosystem. If the weather permits, take a short jungle walk to Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake, a traditional fishing ground for an indigenous tribe. Help preserve Borneo's wild side by participating in an ongoing tree planting conservation project in the region.
Another river cruise in the afternoon gives you the chance to admire the sheer diversity of wildlife sustained by the Kinabatangan River. For the more adventurous at heart, an optional night safari cruise offers the chance to get close to noctornal animals, including crocodiles and night birds.

During certain times of the year, the swiftlets' nests will be harvested by locals using traditional methods incorporating bamboo ladders and poles.
Journey to Lahad Datu in time for lunch, and then proceed to Borneo Rainforest Lodge within Danum Valley. Take the time to explore a nearby nature trail and river after checking into the lodge. Then, wrap up the evening with a slide show followed by a night drive to view some of the nocturnal animals that live in the valley, weather permitting.
