Ipoh – Films & Theater

Visitors to Ipoh will find that the arts are strongly represented in the city. Ipoh and its governing state of Perak are focused on the promotion and maintenance of the local culture, with some city venues seeing regular performances. Live theatrical productions— both local and international musicals—are frequent as are cultural shows honoring traditional dance and music.



Perak Society of Performing Arts

A non-profit organization, the Perak Society of Performing Arts (PSPA) was opened in 1996. Its goal is to promote the development of arts in the state of Perak and in the city of Ipoh. The center works directly with various schools, cultural centers and  artistic institutions for the purpose of performing arts productions. The foundation additionally manages a choir, the PSPA singers, which promote the discovery of new musical talents in Ipoh. The association is determined that Ipoh develops into a city known for the performing arts.

Kompleks Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian

Referred to in English as the Complex of the National Department of Culture and Arts, Perak (abbreviated as JKKN Perak)  was established in 1995 and includes a venue located on 2 acres of land.  Operated by the Perak State Cultural Council, JKKN Perak is focused on the development of cultural and artistic performances. Ongoing events specialize in the preservation and promotion of Ipoh and Perak state culture.

RTM Auditorium

Located in central Ipoh, the RTM Auditorium is well known for its hosting of local events that focus on the art, culture and modern performance styles of Perak state. Generally, presenting events in Malay or English, the venue includes theatrical performances such as dance, traditional theatre and storytelling. Modern performances including comedy, music and other artistic types are often held at the theatre. The venue is famed for international musical productions in tandem with local theatrical groups and educational institutions.
