Johor Figure Museum

Housed in the official residence of the first Johor President, the museum focuses on various artefacts and artwork related to the history of Johor Bahru. Developed in 1893, the building resembles Matlock Castle, a residence in Derbyshire, England, tied to the English Royal family. Here, museum visitors can ponder over exhibits that showcase the life of Malaysia’s elite at the turn of the 19th century. The most fascinating, the Grand Mansion Exhibition, includes a 3D artwork animation that tells the story and history of the 1895 Johor State Constitution.

Kota Tinggi Museum

Adjacent to the Mayres Hotel, the Kota Tinggi Museum is dedicated to  the history of the Johor Sultanate. Opening in 1997, exhibits cover types  of art, such as paintings and wax sculptures, that highlight various cultural aspects unique to Johor. In addition to artwork, the museum exhibits overlap with  dance, architecture and other culturally relevant aspects of the city. The museum offers free admission and an onsite curator who takes visitors through the works of art on display.
