Johor International Kite Festival
Every year, Johor Bahru clears space for its largest annual event. The Johor International Kite Festival sees kite fliers and enthusiasts from around the world descend on the city to create one of the world’s most vibrant kite displays. Held February / March each year, the festival features kite fliers from more than 40 countries each year. While kites take to the skies, various Malaysian arts and crafts are on display, as are traditional kite designs.

Johor Art Festival
Organized by the Johor Society for the Performing Arts (JSPCA), the Johor Art Festival is a one of Malaysia’s longest running arts festivals. Usually in September, the festival includes a multi-week program that showcases the many creative talents of Johor Bahru’s citizens. Launched in 1998, the festival is organized to help promote, support and boost creative arts in the city. Sister festivals also held by the JSPCA include festivals dedicated to jazz, film, piano and classical music.

Bon Odori
Held for over 20 years in the city of Johor Bahru, Bon Odori is a Japanese folk dance festival that celebrates the harvest season. Attracting dance troupes from across Malaysia, the southern region and Japan, the event is one of the largest annual festivals in Johor Bahru. Each year sees the festival adopt a unique theme. While live dance and musical performances, food stalls and more make up the event. In the past, the festival has earned its place in the Malaysia Book of Records for the highest number of people dancing together all at once, with an epic record of 2,725 participants.
