The Art Gallery, Penang
The Art Gallery (Penang) has exhibits focused on contemporary and traditional Malaysian artists. Visitors will find pieces include some of Malaysia’s most famous artistic pioneers, Abdullah Ariff and Lee Cheng Yong. Attracting art collectors, enthusiasts, students and more, the gallery was opened in 1989 and has hosted more than 200 exhibitions since its inception. Located in George Town, visitors will explore artwork that focuses on the culture and history of the Malaysian people, complete with alternating exhibitions.

Penang State Art Gallery
The Penang State Art Gallery is focused on the promotion and preservation of Malaysian art including modern and contemporary. The gallery generally includes pieces from 1965 to present day. Visitors will be able to traverse across mediums such as painting, sculpture, prints, photos, architecture, video, film and more. Local and regional Malaysian artwork is on display, as are worldwide pieces with a connection or focus on the Malaysian people and their culture. Opened in 1962, it is one of the largest collections of contemporary Malaysian art in Penang.

Hin Bus Depot Art Centre
Housed in a former bus depot, this industrial-chic center features an indoor and outdoor exhibition space. While on the weekends, it puts on a market for local traders. Considered a community art space, the center sheds light on Penang’s emerging artists who wish to build their visibility in the creative world. Visitors can expect to see a menagerie of artistic mediums: prints, photos, paintings, sculpture and more, all produced by local Penang artists. Grassroots from the start, the Hin Bus Depot Art Centre is home to exhibitions, events, classes, and artistic performances.
